The Altimeter Corrected Elevations (ACE2), v2 (1994 – 2005) data set has a User Guide and readme.txt file.
Instructions for Loading ACE2 in ArcMap
In order to load the raw ACE2 bsq files into ArcMap with georeferencing and projection information, the bsq file must have a “.raw” extension added, and must be associated with a header (.hdr) file (612 KB zip file).
- Unzip downloaded files
- Add .raw to all the files that end in .ACE2 (e.g. add .raw" to 00N000E_CONF_3S.ACE2 so that the file name is 00N000E_CONF_3S.ACE2.raw)
- Select the correct .hdr file from “hdr_files.zip” included with the documentation and add it to the same directory as the .raw file with the same file name.
TWO EXAMPLES:
EXAMPLE #1
If the 30N120W tile has been downloaded at 5 arc-minute resolution (dedc-ace-v2_30N120W_5min.zip) and the heights variable is selected with the bsq file name 30N120W_LAND_5m.ACE2
First: rename 30N120W_LAND_5m.ACE2 as 30N120W_LAND_5m_ACE2.raw
Second: copy 30N120W_5m.ACE2.hdr file from “hdr_files.zip” into the same directory and rename it as 30N120W_LAND_5m.ACE2.hdr.
You will now have two files in the directory:
30N120W_LAND_5m_ACE2.raw
30N120W_LAND_5m.ACE2.hdr
The data can be added into ArcMap by clicking on the Add Data button in ArcGIS and pointing to the directory. Note that the layer will be in a cylindrical projection, and will need to be reprojected to use in a standard Geographic projection.
EXAMPLE #2
If the 00N000E tile has been downloaded at 3 arc-second resolution (dedc-ace-v2_00N000E_3sec.zip) and the confidence variable is selected with the bsq file name 00N000E_CONF_3S.ACE2
First: rename 00N000E_CONF_3S.ACE2 as 00N000E_CONF_3S.ACE2.raw
Second: copy 00N000E_3S.ACE2.hdr file from “hdr_files.zip” into the same directory and rename it as 00N000E_CONF_3S.ACE2.hdr.
You will now have two files in the directory:
00N000E_CONF_3S.ACE2.raw
00N000E_CONF_3S.ACE2.hdr
The data can be added into ArcMap by clicking on the Add Data button in ArcGIS and pointing to the directory. Note that the layer will be in a cylindrical projection, and will need to be reprojected to use in a standard Geographic projection.
