GIS of Mexican States, Municipalities and Islands, v1 (1990 – 1990)

In this dataset, the boundaries of the Mexican states and municipalites that share borders with the United States are consistent with those from TIGER95. Attributes include selected demographic and socioeconomic variables from INEGI. 

The coverages are in a geographic projection, units are decimal degrees and the datum is Clarke 1866.

Variable Names and labels

The following variable names and labels define the attributes attached to the
STATE and MUNICIPIO coverages:

STCODE          - state key according to the map
LON             - longitude of state or municipio center point
LAT             - latitude of state or municipio center point
STNUM           - state number
STNAME          - state name (state coverage only)
MUNAME        - municipio name (municipio coverage only)
IDENT        - concatenated state code and municipio number
TOTPOP          - total population
MALE            - male population
FEMALE          - female population

Please note that the state and municipio numbers used here match those used by
INEGI for 1990 census data.

HU_FI_POP     - economically active population of the state dedicated to primary activities like hunting and fishing

The coverages are in a geographic projection, units are decimal degrees and the datum is Clarke 1866.

POP>4_SPAN    - population over 4 yrs old speaking Spanish and an indigenous language
POP5_UP_NOEL  - population over 5 yrs old without elementary education
POP5_UP_PTEL  - population over 5 yrs old with post-elementary education
TOTPOP18_UP_HS- total population over 18 yrs old with high school education
POP6_14RW     - population 6-14 years old able to read and write
POP6_14NORW   - population 6-14 years old not able to read and write

TOT_LG_SUF_EJ - total land grant surface for the state according to the ejidal census
AGRI_SUR_PC   - agricultural surface of the state (private & communal)
CATL_SUR_PC   - cattle surface of the state (private & communal)
FOR_SUR_PC    - forest surface of the state (private & communal)
TOT_LG_SUR_AC - total land grant surface for the state according to agricultural census 1991
