Top One Percent Wild Areas (Geographic), v1 (1992 – 1995)
Purpose:
To provide a map of the wildest areas in geographic projection which can be used in wildlife conservation planning, natural resource management, and research on human-environment interactions.
Abstract:
The Top One Percent Wild Areas Dataset of the Last of the Wild Project, Version 1, 2002 (LWP-1) is derived from the LWP-1 Human Footprint Dataset. The gridded data are classified according to their raster value (wild = 0-1; not wild >1). The top 1% of the wild areas within each biome by realm are selected and identified. This dataset is produced by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and Columbia University Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN), and is available in the Geographic Coordinate system.
