The grids have a resolution of 30 arc-seconds (0.0083 decimal degrees), or approximately 1 square km. The gridded variables are based on census block geography from Census 2010 TIGER/Line Files and census variables (population, households, and housing variables). To provide gridded demographic data, including characteristics of age, race, ethnicity, and housing, for the United States and Puerto Rico for data integration.2010010120101231publication dateAs needed-180.000000-65.00000072.00000017.000000Data GranularityCountryStateISO TopicBoundariesSocietySEDAC ThemePopulationGCMD Science Keywords, Version 8.6EARTH SCIENCE > HUMAN DIMENSIONS > POPULATIONCIESIN Location Terms, Version 3.1United States of AmericaU.S. States and TerritoriesAlabamaAlaskaArizonaArkansasCaliforniaColoradoConnecticutDelawareDistrict of ColumbiaFloridaGeorgiaHawaiiIdahoIllinoisIndianaIowaKansasKentuckyLouisianaMaineMarylandMassachusettsMichiganMinnesotaMississippiMissouriMontanaNebraskaNevadaNew HampshireNew JerseyNew MexicoNew YorkNorth CarolinaNorth DakotaOhioOklahomaOregonPennsylvaniaPuerto RicoRhode IslandSouth CarolinaSouth DakotaTennesseeTexasUtahVermontVirginiaWashingtonWest VirginiaWisconsinWyomingNoneThis work is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0). The 2010 SF1 files for each state are converted to text files and loaded into geodatabases.
2. The SF1 fields are combined as specified in the variable documentation to create the variables being gridded.
3. NHWHITE and NHBLACK are disaggregated from the tract level to the block level based on population distribution.
4. The 2010 TIGER/Line shapefiles are imported into a geodatabase.
5. The SF1 variables are joined to the tiger feature classes. The density of each variable is calculated for each census block.
6. A 30 arc-second fishnet is created and intersected with the census block feature class.
7. The area in square kilometers is calculated for each area of intersection. The total count for each variable is calculated by multiplying the area in square kilometers in each area of intersection by the density of that variable in the underlying census block.
8. The total count for each grid cell is calculated by aggregating the variable counts for each area of intersection that falls within that grid cell.
9. The fishnet grid for each variable is converted to raster format.RasterGrid Cell3000120010.0083000.008300Decimal degreesNorth American Datum of 1983Geodetic Reference System 806378137.000000298.257000U.S. Census Grids (Summary File 1), 2010 DIST 1NASA Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC)mailing and physical address
