   AGREEMENT FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A COMMISSION FOR CONTROLLING
                 THE DESERT LOCUST IN THE NEAR EAST
                            (as amended)

Objective
=========

     Through the establishment of a commission within the framework of
FAO, to promote national and international research and action to
control the desert locust in the region.

Summary of provisions
=====================

     As for the Agreement for the Establishment of a Commission for
Controlling the Desert Locust in the Eastern Region of its Distribution
in South-West Asia.

Membership
==========

     Open to member nations and associate members of FAO and such
members of the United Nations, any of its specialized agencies or IAEA,
as are situated in the region as defined in the Preamble.

Method of participation
=======================

     (a) For members and associate members of FAO:  by depositing an
instrument of acceptance which becomes effective on the date of
receipt;

     (b) For other States that are members of the United Nations, any
of its specialized agencies or IAEA:  submission to the Commission of
an application for membership and a declaration made in a formal
instrument that they accept the Agreement as in force at the time of
admission.  Admission to membership is decided by the Commission by a
two-thirds majority of its members.
