PROTOCOL OF 1978 RELATING TO THE INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION
FOR THE PREVENTION OF POLLUTION FROM SHIPS, 1973
Summary of provisions
=====================
The 1978 Protocol modifies various provisions of the 1973
London Convention, and in particular of its annex I. It also
postpones the entry into force of annex II of the Convention for a
period of at least three years.
Membership
==========
States may become parties to the Protocol by signature without
reservation as to ratification, acceptance or approval, or by
signature subject to ratification, acceptance or approval, followed
by ratification, acceptance or approval, or by accession.
Ratification, acceptance, approval or accession shall be effected by
the deposit of an instrument to that effect with the Secretary-
General of IMCO.
