      CONVENTION ON THE CONSERVATION OF MIGRATORY SPECIES  
                         OF WILD ANIMALS

Objective
=========

     To protect those species of wild animals that migrate across
or outside national boundaries.

Summary of provisions
=====================

     (a)  Endangered migratory species to be listed in appendix I;

     (b)  Migratory species to be subject to agreements listed in
appendix II;

     (c)  International agreements should deal with those aspects
of the conservation and management of the migratory species
concerned which serve to achieve the object of protection;

     (d)  A scientific council to be established to provide advice
on scientific matters;*

     (e)  A secretariat to be established.*

Membership
==========

     Open for signature by all States and regional economic
integration organizations until 22 June 1980, and thereafter open
for accession by non-signatory States and regional economic
integration organizations.
