Report of the Third Meeting of the Ozone Research Managers

AUSTRIA

1. Monitoring network

A) Mountain observatory Sonnblick (47°. 03' N, 12°.57' E, 3106 m altitude): A Brewer spectrophotometer MKIV No. 093 equipped with a single monochromator has been recording stratospheric ozone (column and vertical profile) and spectral UV-B (290 - 325 nm) since August 93 (University of Agriculture, Forestry and Renewable Natural Resources, Vienna). A Bentham double monochromator is monitoring spectral global 1,'V irradiance from 280 to 500 nm in 0 5 nm steps since June 1995 (University of Agriculture, Forestry and Renewable Natural Resources Vienna) . The measurements are performed every 30 minutes. The UV data are still being validated. Both instruments, the Brewer and the Bentham, are involved in the scientific UV Data Management (SUVDAMA), sponsored by the European Community. Routine meteorological data (global irradiance, sky irradiance, temperature, air pressure etc.) are available from the Austrian Meteorological Office (ZAMG) The Sonnblick. Zugspitze (Germany) and Jungfraujoch (Switzerland) observatories together make up an alpine GAW station.

B) Broad band UV measurements with Robertson Berger instruments are being performed by the Institute of Med. Physics, University of Innsbruck in Innsbruck (577 m altitude) since 1980 and by the Medical Institute (Dermatology), University of Vienna in Vienna (230 m altitude) since Juli 1995.

C) A Robertson Berger network with 5 stations (first phase) is being setup (University of Innsbruck). It will be up with the routine spectral measurements carried out at Sonnblick Observatory. The installation of a second Bentham double monochromator for routine spectral UV measurements in Vienna is planned. The network is intended to supply day to day information to the public.
