Syria has been conducting systematic measurements of the total ozone content, using a Russian made ozonometer in Damascus City.
This station has been operating since 1993, and one year row data is available but needs to be processed in order to obtain the required information.
Unfortunately this system is now out of operation and requires calibration.
FUTURE PLAN
Due to the important location of Damascus as a part of WMO Global Ozone Observing System and assuming financial and technical support for instrument calibration could be obtained, Syria will take the necessary action to assure its continuous ozone observation.
The information obtained will be used also for studies on the effect of ozone depletion on human and ecosystems.
