Human Health Data Resources |
Resources. This service provides an online directory for data sources of possible health effects from exposure to ultraviolet radiation. The focus here is primarily on skin cancer registries, which include data on melanoma skin cancer in the United States and Canada. National and international registries are also listed. When online resources exist at remote host locations, direct links are made to these sites. For resources that are not online, overview descriptions of the dataset or registry will be provided.
Limitations. Due to limitations in the availability of health data on ocular damage and immunosuppression, most of the listings below are related to skin cancer, almost exclusively melanomas. In very few cases are data on nonmelanoma skin cancers (e.g. basal cell or squamous cell carcinomas) systematically archived in local or national registries. While more data exist on melanomas, the completeness and the quality of such data vary over time and location.
Future Work. A goal of this project is to eventually include descriptions and contact information for data sets utilized by research studies that are published in peer-reviewed journals and reports. As more data become available on other relevant health effects, such as cataracts and related infectious diseases, those data sources will also be added.
