User registration is now required by the NASA Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) to download data. Registration is easy and free of charge, as is data access.

  • Login / Register. You will be sent to EOSDIS Earthdata Login. Once you login you will be redirected back to this page.
  • View / Edit your profile (registered users). You will be sent to Earthdata Login in a separate tab or window.

User Benefits

The goal of registration is a better user experience. The EOSDIS Earthdata Login provides a centralized and simplified mechanism for user registration and profile management for all EOSDIS system components including SEDAC, other data centers (DAACs), ECHO, REVERB, LANCE, and GCMD. End users register and edit their profile information in one location allowing them access to the wide array of EOSDIS data and services. The EOSDIS Earthdata Login also helps the EOSDIS program better understand user community needs, which supports planning for new value-added features and customized services that can be directed to specific users or user groups. It also permits communication with users concerning updates or issues with data sets they have downloaded. User information will never be sold to commercial providers or shared with other government agencies.

Instructions

When initially registering with the Earthdata Login, an email address will be required. Upon registering, you will receive instructions by email to confirm your registration. To complete your registration, you must activate your account by clicking on the link provided in the email.

When you log in to the Earthdata Login, the standard NASA warning message will display.  Please note that this warning applies to hacking and attempts to misuse the system; you are free to access SEDAC data, information, and services without prior authorization. All Earthdata Login activities are monitored by NASA.

We recommend that you log in to the Earthdata Login before clicking the link to download a data product. Attempting to download data without logging in first will result in a hidden error in some cases. In other instances, you may still be able to login and download data after clicking the download link, but the browser will still display the Earthdata Login page after completing the data transfer and will not redirect back to the SEDAC page automatically. Bookmarking the SEDAC website in your browser may enable you to easily return to the SEDAC website.

Profile information from the Earthdata Login may be used by NASA to contact you regarding your experience using SEDAC resources.
