Service Description: The COVID-19 Cases polygons are published as a part of the SEDAC Global COVID-19 Mapper. This web map contains six layers that present data on r prevalence and mortality rates for the novel coronavirus disease(COVID-19) at national and subnational scales, to the extent of data availability. These rates are calculated using SEDAC’s GPWv411 UNWPP-Adjusted Population Totals for 2020 and daily case reporting from John Hopkins University & Medicine Coronavirus Resource Center. For each layer’s unit of analysis, information is visualized in quintiles. The SEDAC Global COVID-19 Mapper offers geographically-explicit population-level data on the coronavirus’s transmission, including confirmed cases, recovered cases, r prevalence, and mortality rates. This data is incorporated with population risk factors including sex makeup, age distribution, and degree of urbanization. Mitigating the coronavirus pandemic requires an understanding of the population demographics, density metrics, and the disease spread conditions particular to each locality. As such the viewer is especially useful in evaluating community-tailored strategies and as a tool for those researchers, educators, and policymakers interested in visualizing the novel coronavirus’s impact.
